Privacy Policy for Phone Contact Identifier
Last Updated: January 25, 2026
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how the Phone Contact Identifier browser extension (the "Extension") handles information when you use it.
We are committed to your privacy. We do not collect, sell, or share your personal information. Your contacts are processed locally on your device and never leave your browser.
2. What Data We Access
Your Google Contacts
When you sign in with your Google account, the Extension reads your contacts from Google Contacts to match phone numbers on web pages. This includes:
- Contact names
- Phone numbers associated with each contact
Important: We only READ your contacts. We never modify, add, or delete any contacts.
Web Page Content
The Extension scans the current web page for phone number patterns to identify which numbers to highlight and match against your contacts.
3. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used for exactly one purpose: to identify phone numbers on web pages using your contacts. All processing happens locally in your browser.
4. Local Data Storage
The Extension stores data only locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API:
- Contacts Cache: Your contacts are cached for up to 30 minutes to avoid repeated API calls
- Authentication Token: Your Google OAuth token is stored securely in your browser
- User Preferences: Any settings you configure are stored locally
No data is stored on any server. All data remains on your device.
5. Data Transmission
The Extension communicates with only one external service: Google People API (people.googleapis.com) to fetch your contacts after you sign in.
What we DO NOT transmit:
- Contact data to our servers (we don't have any)
- Phone numbers from web pages
- Browsing history or activity
- Data to advertising networks or trackers
6. OAuth Authentication
The Extension uses Google OAuth 2.0 to securely authenticate you:
- When you first sign in, you'll see Google's authentication screen
- You approve the Extension to access your contacts (read-only)
- Google issues an access token to your browser
- The token is used only to fetch your contacts
- The token is never sent to any developer server
7. Security & Privacy
- No Server Storage
- No Data Collection
- No Third-Party Sharing
- No Tracking
- No Advertising
All data processing happens in your browser. All communication with Google is encrypted. We don't log any user activity or personal data.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
Automatic Deletion
- Cached Contacts: Automatically deleted after 30 minutes of inactivity
- OAuth Token: Deleted when you sign out or uninstall the Extension
- Browser Storage: Cleared when Extension is removed
Manual Deletion
- Sign Out: Click the Extension icon and select "Sign Out" to immediately delete cached data
- Uninstall: Removing the Extension deletes all stored data from Chrome
Revoke Access
To revoke the Extension's access to your Google account, go to myaccount.google.com/permissions, find "Phone Contact Identifier", and select "Remove access".
9. Third Parties
Only you and Google have access to your contact information. We do NOT sell, share, or use your data for machine learning, profiling, or advertising.
